Adventure – Unconventional Welcome

The affectionate mountain began to greet my car with a frozen hug. Layers upon layers of snowflakes began to pile up on my vehicle, like family members at a group hug. While welcoming, the meddlesome snow hounded the threats of my vehicle. The harried sleet was persistent, but it created a thin reaction. Realistically, I was exuberant at the idea of adventure within the rocky mountains. I saw the incoming blizzard as a sign of hospitality in these summits.

Laying my vessel to rest, I began to prepare myself to greet the storm personally. Armed with a flashlight and unhealthy amount of adrenaline, I let the snow linger into a vehicle as I open the door. Out of habit, I began to wrestle with the snow as it saluted my leather seats. Fruitless, really, as the snow managed to multiply in twine. I slammed the door closed out of desperation, the shockwave disturbing the surrounding forest and renewing my senses.

As dark as a dungeon, the forest creaked and rustled against the assaulting wind. This musical performance of nature must have been an emotional solo, as at times, the hymnal drafts were as serene as a zephyr or as thunderous as a tornado. The moon must have been curious about my travels, as she was present that night. However, I assumed that she must not get a glamorous view as the clouds shielded me from observing her.  Nevertheless, her presence was felt. An aura created by her light dyed the swirling clouds with various hues of gray.

At that moment, an objective was created involuntarily in an extremely stimulated mind. I had the goal of returning to the entrance and paying the fee required to rest among the tall trees. In retrospect, it seemed so silly to sacrifice my comfort and warmth just to pay a fee when I could have simply revisited that area with Ruby. Especially after learning that the park was mainly unmanned during the winter and I could have gotten away with not paying. While I do not fear the wandering eyes of creatures of the forest, I do not wish to indulge in that kind of malice.

Following the trail created by Ruby, I began leaving footprints in newly created snow. The distinctive sound clashing the silence created by the gloomy woods. Like walking on ice without the terror of falling. My fingertips took turns begging in agony as I swapped hands while holding my torch. By the time I arrived at the bulletin board, my hands were mimicking the patterns of an earthquake. I witnessed the paper dampen as the accumulated frost from my hands embrace the deserted parchment. With a sigh of frustration, I stored multiple documents into my coat pockets and began to roam back to my vehicle.

Ruby waved at me with excitement as she witnessed the glare of my torch. Her smile was covered by the never ending barrage of snow. As I began finalizing the campground registration, it was evident that my changes of organizing a campsite were dimming. Out of desperation, I began tossing all the items in the trunk of my car to the front of the vehicle. The clutter imitating my cleaning up habits when I was young.

Water bubbled in the background as I rearranged my belongings, as I was dedicated to eating a decent warm meal. With limited space, I was cautious not to tip over the makeshift galley. The smell of chicken noodle soup began to linger in the air. Finalizing my emergency preceding, I turned at my awaited meal. The soup began to feed my nostrils then my eyes, before I could properly take a bite. The lower temperatures amplify the taste of such a simple meal. The welcoming heat changed the atmosphere of my dingy environment. Like a parent, the soup properly tucked me to bed.

The winter’s breath entered my vessel through the many crevices left through Ruby’s hinges. This must be the mountain’s alarm, as it shook me awake. I hesitated out of bed, and stared at the void as my mechanisms activated. Igniting Ruby’s engine, I waited for my body to heat up. I could feel my body jittering the frost away. If my legs were to shake any faster, I could have melted a hole into my seat. While my mind lacked any type of concise thought, I was pondering over my newly discovered winter environment.

Naturally I decided to ruin all the accumulated warmth and opened a window.

A formosus peak blessed my eye sight. Dressed with a marvelous amount of pine trees, gray of the sky began to contradict the brown, red and green of the fauna. At the peak’s feet, yellow hairs of grass poked from the untouched snow. The wind must have been strong at some points, as the packed snow copied the shape of a calm sandy beach.  To my surprise, there was the presence of other campers. However, they seemed a lot more prepared than me.

I do not mind the wealth of my neighbors, In fact, I seem to forget their existence. I was enchanted by my surroundings and unwillingly created my own personal universe. Repeating some of the patterns of the previous night, I invited myself to a cup of hot chocolate. My trunk was open, letting the mist from the boiling water return to its element. A pen and my journal accompany at that very moment, writing all the events that have been created by my adventure.

Harmonious tunes emanate from my speakers, artists such as Mac DeMarco, Hania Rani and Man I Trust, elevating my experience. It was truly mystical.

The smell of odor began to invite black and white critters to scavenge my local surroundings. Feathery Folk who were curious of my appearance in these magical woods. They were polite, simply observing with a curious glare.

My venture to the mountain had to be postponed due to the fleeing storm. This revelation did not affect me, as I was as chill as my surrounding environment. At times, I begged for the sun to stop rotating.
